Dr. Diane Hernandez is a passionate licensed psychologist who dedicates her time to clinical practice, consultation, scholarly writing and research. In her clinical practice, she delivers evidence-based treatments to adults with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and adjustment problems, such as post- traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, stress, depression, and complications from grief and loss. In her consulting work, she has provided supervision to medical colleagues as they work with patients undergoing medical evaluations and procedures such as assisted reproductive therapies, cross sex hormone therapies, and gender affirming surgeries. Dr. Hernandez performs mental health evaluations for international adoptions, assisted reproductive medicine, and post-traumatic stress disorder, including events related to previous abortions, infertility, still births, and post-partum depression. Dr. Hernandez designed and initiated the integration of mental health services to Veterans undergoing assisted reproductive therapy at the West Palm Beach VA and performs the recommended evaluations and provides therapy to our Veterans and their families during their treatment and the postpartum period.
Dr. Hernandez finds it very rewarding to witness the healing, recovery, and transformations using CBT and other evidence-based treatments in clients with trauma related stress disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, suicidal ideation, and personality disorders. She is passionate about helping others by applying her experience and compassion with clients as they begin to process issues that keep them from living within their values and full potentials. It is her mission to help her clients attain a sense of fulfillment and optimal life satisfaction.
Dr. Hernandez received her BA with Honors from Florida Atlantic University and her Psy.D. in clinical psychology from Nova southeastern University. She completed her clinical psychology internship at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina. Her previous academic positions include being as assistant professor at Burnett School of Medicine at University of Central Florida where she provided education and training to medical students working with Veterans with combat and military sexual trauma. In her previous clinical positions, she developed specialized programs that targeted readjustment processes to Veterans and their families, including parent training and behavioral therapies. Dr. Hernandez held the position of Evidence based psychotherapy coordinator for the Orlando and West Palm Beach VA medical Centers. In her role, she coordinated and disseminated all national trainings of evidence-based psychotherapy trainings to VA Mental Health staff, tracked and monitored delivery of services to Veterans, prepared and delivered reports on outcome data, provided ongoing consultation to the facility, and presented at various evidence- based therapy conferences.
Dr. Hernandez is a member of many professional organizations, including the Mental Health of Professionals Group of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. She is on the advisory board for the LGBTQI Veteran population and serves as the mental health consultant for the reproductive services at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center. Dr. Hernandez has authored a book related to traumatic pregnancy losses and infertility currently in review for publication. She is an author on several peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Dr. Hernandez is excited to share important information regarding the connection between mental health and fertility.
